Kenya's under-20 sensation Aldrine Kibet has officially joined the La Liga team Celta Vigo.

 

As per media reports, the talented player has finalized a transfer worth €6 million (approximately Ksh 864 million) to the Spanish side.

Following the announcement, many Kenyans have expressed their congratulations regarding this move. Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris stated that the 18-year-old's transfer signifies a significant achievement in his football career.

“Kenyan prodigy Aldrine Kibet has signed with the La Liga club Celta Vigo for €6 million. This transition for the 18-year-old U20 player represents a pivotal moment in his football journey, propelling him from a local hero to an emerging talent on the international scene,” part of her statement read.

Sports journalist Ole Teya mentioned, “Celta Vigo is poised to capture the hearts of residents in Baringo and Kitale with the impending addition of Aldrine Kibet. Kibet may have started his journey in Kitale as merely a student, but he has evolved into a community icon, his mere presence is enough to halt business operations.”

Aldrine Kibet gained recognition as an attacking midfielder for St. Anthony’s Boys High School in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, where he led the team to victory in the national championship at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) tournament in August 2023.

He was honored as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and top scorer, amassing 25 goals and 27 assists throughout the tournament. Prior to his move to Celta Vigo, Aldrine Kibet had been developing his skills at Spain’s Nàstic Sports Academy, which is associated with Gimnàstic de Tarragona, competing in the Spanish third division.

He relocated there in September 2023, having transitioned directly from St. Anthony’s Boys’ High School in Kitale after his outstanding performance in the 2023 KSSSA school games.
