Erica Renee Sanders and Keven Dwayne Adams Charged with Child Abandonment After 12-Year-Old Returns Home to Empty House

Copperas Cove, Texas — A Texas couple, Erica Renee Sanders and Keven Dwayne Adams, have been arrested and charged with child abandonment after Sanders’ 12-year-old son returned home from school to find their house completely empty and no way to reach them.

According to Copperas Cove Police, the incident occurred on Friday, October 17, when the boy came home to discover that all household furniture and belongings were gone. Investigators said the child was aware his mother and her boyfriend planned to move “someday,” but he was never told it would be that day.

Distressed and confused, the child sought help from a neighbor, who then contacted the authorities. The neighbor informed police that the couple had a history of forcing the boy out of the home.

When reached by police, Sanders and Adams allegedly claimed that the boy was “supposed to be picked up by his uncle.” However, when officers contacted the uncle, he denied any knowledge of such an arrangement.

During questioning, Sanders maintained that she did not abandon her son, saying she had only moved into Adams’ new residence. She also admitted that Adams did not want the child living with them.

When Child Protective Services (CPS) requested the couple’s new address, they refused to provide it. Investigators eventually located the new residence on 2nd Street through water utility records.

Both Sanders and Adams were arrested and charged with abandoning or endangering a child without intent to return.

The 12-year-old is now staying safely with his uncle, according to authorities.
