Lifestyle content creator Brenay Kennard is facing a $3.5 million lawsuit after allegedly cheating on Devon Mayo with Tim Montague, sparking a high-profile trial drawing national attention.
The case centers on Akira Montague, who is suing Kennard for damages, claiming that Kennard’s actions caused her significant emotional harm and trauma. The lawsuit has been closely followed in part due to Kennard’s massive social media presence, including more than 3 million followers on TikTok. Kennard, based in Winterville, Pitt County, is known for her lifestyle content, including “get ready with me” videos, cooking and makeup tutorials, and mukbang food reviews.
During Thursday’s proceedings at the Durham County Courthouse, Tim Montague, now Akira’s ex-husband, testified about his relationship with Akira. He admitted that when he proposed in 2018 at a Duke football game, he presented a very inexpensive ring and never actually got down on one knee or asked her, “Will you marry me?” He also revealed that he had never been in love with Akira, describing their marriage as “just like roommates.”
Akira Montague and her legal team presented witnesses to illustrate the emotional distress and disruption Brenay Kennard allegedly caused in her life, forming the basis of the $3.5 million claim.
The trial has captivated attention not only for the alleged infidelity but also because of Kennard’s high-profile online persona, highlighting the intersection of social media fame and real-life legal consequences.
