Laval Underworld Figure “Bobby the Greek” Shot Dead in Targeted Hit Outside Starbucks
Laval, Quebec — A brazen daylight shooting outside a busy Starbucks in Laval has left notorious underworld crime boss Charalambos “Bobby the Greek” Theologou dead, in what police are calling a targeted organized crime hit. Two members of his gang were also injured and remain hospitalized in serious condition.
The shooting unfolded just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday outside a strip mall in Laval, where witnesses reported a gunman opening fire with a machine gun in the crowded parking lot.
Theologou, 40, was the reputed leader of the Chomedey Greeks, an organized crime group involved in extortion, drug trafficking, and violent enforcement operations across the Montreal area. He was widely known to law enforcement for his ties to cocaine and heroin distribution, as well as links to multiple arson attacks on local businesses.
Quebec Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière confirmed that the attack bore the hallmarks of a planned execution tied to organized crime, but reassured residents there was no evidence of innocent bystanders being harmed.
“This has all the hallmarks of a planned attack,” Lafrenière said. “We are working hard to crack down on organized crime in Quebec.”
Theologou’s criminal history stretched back nearly two decades. He served four years in prison in 2007 for conspiracy and aggravated assault, followed by a five-year sentence in 2010 for drug trafficking. Investigative reports also tied him to an extortion ring in Laval, further cementing his reputation as a powerful figure in Montreal’s underworld.
Police said the shooters fled the scene in a vehicle. No arrests have yet been made, but investigators believe the hit was likely sanctioned by a rival syndicate amid escalating tensions between crime groups in the province.
Authorities continue to investigate the killing.
