A 15-year-old boy from Chesapeake, Virginia, has been arrested and charged with the murder of his 63-year-old grandmother, Christine Murray.
According to the Chesapeake Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 700 block of South Lake Circle at around 4:27 p.m. on Tuesday, where they found Murray deceased at the scene.
Investigators say the suspect — her 15-year-old grandson — was taken into custody without incident and has since been charged with first-degree murder in connection with her fatal stabbing.
Police emphasized in a public statement that there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Neighbors described the tragedy as devastating and deeply unsettling, particularly for local children who knew the teen.
“This morning at the bus stop, it’s all the kids were talking about — how one of their classmates, one of their peers, was involved in something like this,” one neighbor told WAVY.
Another neighbor, speaking to 13News Now, shared that she knew Christine Murray personally and often saw her caring for her grandson after school, typically before the boy’s father arrived to pick him up around 4:30 p.m.
She recalled being “horrified” to see the teen escorted from the house in handcuffs just minutes before the usual pick-up time.
Flowers and candles now sit outside the home as the community mourns the loss of a beloved grandmother described as kind, nurturing, and gone too soon.
As of now, police have not disclosed any motive behind the shocking act, and the investigation remains ongoing.
