A Pasadena, Maryland couple, William Hayes, 56, and Jenna Hayes, 54, were fatally shot at their home Sunday afternoon, leaving a tight-knit community in shock and mourning. Authorities say the suspect, 61-year-old Anthony Louis Reyes of Nottingham, Maryland, knew the victims.

Anne Arundel County Police responded around 1:55 p.m. on November 16 to a reported shooting at a residence on the 1700 block of Twickenham Road. Officers found William and Jenna Hayes suffering from gunshot wounds; both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Reyes was later identified as the suspect after someone inside the home called 911, according to CBS News. Police located his vehicle, a black Toyota Camry with out-of-state plates, at the 1600 block of Bluestone Street in Hanover around 6:27 p.m. When officers attempted to pull him over, he fled, prompting a pursuit that ended with his arrest at 97 South and Quarterfield Road.

Anne Arundel Police Chief Amal Awad described the Long Point Community as quiet and family-oriented, noting that the timing of the tragedy — right before the holiday season — has deeply affected residents.

“It’s just terribly horrific, especially right before the holiday season,” Awad said. “This is a very close-knit community. You can see it by how they have already started decorating for the holidays.”
