The Minneapolis Police Department is mourning the unexpected death of Recruit Officer Amara Kanneh, who passed away Wednesday, December 3, while off-duty, according to MPD officials.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara announced Kanneh’s death Thursday morning, calling the loss heartbreaking for the department and the recruit class currently in training. No details regarding the cause or manner of death have been released.

Kanneh joined MPD in early October and was undergoing preservice training at the Minneapolis Police Academy at the time of his passing.
