York College Mourns Death of Longtime Athletic Communications Director Scott Guise

York College of Pennsylvania is grieving the loss of Scott Guise, the beloved and longtime Director of Athletic Communications, who passed away recently after serving the college community for more than 25 years.

A Pillar of York College Athletics

Guise began his career at York College in July 1995, becoming a central figure in the growth and professionalism of the Spartans’ 23-team intercollegiate athletics program. His responsibilities spanned every aspect of athletic communications, including:

  • Leading media relations and sports information

  • Generating publicity and press materials

  • Managing and redesigning ycpspartans.com, the official athletics website

  • Overseeing all social media communications

  • Compiling statistics, historical records, and award nominations

Guise was instrumental in launching and modernizing the athletics website and played a major role in promoting student-athletes on the national stage. Under his guidance, 15 York College athletes earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

Remembered as a Mentor, Colleague, and Friend

Athletes, alumni, and staff across the York College community expressed profound sadness at his passing. Guise was widely known not only for his expertise and work ethic, but for his warmth, mentorship of student workers, and unwavering commitment to elevating the college’s athletic profile.

He was an active contributor to major professional organizations, including ECAC-SIDA and CoSIDA, where he served on the board and as a national voter for athletic awards.

Battling Illness While Continuing to Serve

York College shared that Guise had faced significant medical challenges in recent years after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Despite his health battles, he continued to work tirelessly.

“Yet he remained a steady presence at athletic events, either behind a camera, on a headset, or even on his laptop while receiving treatment,” the YC Spartans said in a statement.

A Legacy That Will Be Deeply Missed

Guise’s impact on York College athletics—professionally, historically, and personally—will continue to be felt for years to come. The college community is honoring his legacy as a dedicated leader, mentor, and friend whose contributions shaped generations of Spartan athletes.
