A 48-year-old woman was killed Monday morning after her vehicle rear-ended a snowplow on Interstate 94 near Springdale Road in Waukesha County, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes. Officials said the snowplow, operated by the Waukesha County Highway Department, had its warning lights activated and was clearing packed snow from the shoulder when the woman’s vehicle struck it from behind. The victim, identified as Sarah Marie Sobieralski of Waukesha, was taken to a hospital but died from her injuries. The snowplow driver was not hurt and attempted to assist Sobieralski until emergency crews arrived.
Westbound I-94 was closed for several hours as investigators processed the scene, and traffic was diverted at Bluemound Road and Barker Road. Drivers reported a chaotic moment as bystanders rushed across lanes to help amid smoke and debris. One witness, Bingo Emmons, recalled seeing white smoke and spinning vehicles as traffic suddenly came to a stop.
A GoFundMe created by Sobieralski’s family identified her as a mother of two. The fundraiser described her as someone who filled her children’s lives with love, kindness, and a bright spirit. Her son Dylan, who launched the campaign seeking $20,000 for funeral and memorial costs, thanked the community for their support during what he called an incredibly difficult time.
He wrote that any contribution, no matter the amount, would help the family as they navigate their loss.
