Flowery Branch Murder-Suicide: Adrian Gabriele Alexander Shoots Mallory Jane Whitaker Before Taking His Own Life as 9-Year-Old Daughter Calls for Help on FaceTime

Georgia authorities have released the names of the victim and gunman involved in a weekend murder-suicide in Flowery Branch. The tragedy unfolded while the couple’s nine-year-old daughter hid in an upstairs closet and called for help.

According to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Mallory Jane Whitaker, 50, of Gainesville, was shot and killed by her partner, Adrian Gabriele Alexander, 51, of Flowery Branch. After shooting Whitaker, Alexander turned the gun on himself. Their nine-year-old daughter ran upstairs to hide in a closet and used FaceTime to call for help during the incident.

Authorities said the child contacted a friend through FaceTime, and that friend’s parents immediately called 911, FOX5 reported. The young girl was not physically injured.

Deputies arrived at the home on the 5400 block of Bushnell Court just before 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 1. When they entered, they found Whitaker dead near the doorway. Alexander was discovered in the basement with a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.

News of the domestic violence incident has shocked neighbors in the quiet, well-kept community.

“We’re all kind of taken aback because it’s a really nice neighborhood. It’s super quiet. These kinds of things just aren’t normal here,” neighbor Juan Jimenez told FOX5.

“It’s so sad. There’s always an answer, but this isn’t the way to go about it. Now there’s a child without her parents, and a community that’s confused and saddened by what happened.”

In the aftermath, Brandi Roberts of Flowery Branch launched a GoFundMe to support the couple’s surviving 9-year-old daughter.

Part of the fundraiser reads:

“This tragedy has shocked and devastated our community. Many have asked how they can help the 9-year-old survivor of domestic violence. The family has decided that the best way to help her and honor her mother is by starting a college fund for her future.

The daughter is incredibly bright, and her mother always dreamed she would grow up to be a scientist. This heartbreaking event has also shown her resilience, strength, and bravery. Our goal is to surround her with stability, safety, and joy — giving her the best chance at as normal a life as possible.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, the fundraiser had raised $25,429.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine what led to the shooting. Authorities released the names after notifying the family’s out-of-state relatives.
