Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former FOX2 St. Louis morning news anchor, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, to death at a home in Wichita, Kansas. Mock, 47, has claimed the act was done in self-defense.
According to a Wichita Police Department news release, officers responded around 8 a.m. on Friday to a reported stabbing in the 1500 block of East Crowley Street. When authorities arrived, they found Mock outside the residence and discovered Avers inside, lying in bed with multiple stab wounds.
Emergency responders transported Avers to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police stated that Mock was taken into custody and treated at a hospital before being booked into Sedgwick County Jail, where she now faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with her mother’s death.

“Calling party stabbed the mother to save herself.”
A neighbor told KAKE that Mock ran from the home covered in blood, frantically asking someone to call 911.
“I asked her if she was OK, and she was pretty shaken up. She seemed scared, and then she just ran off,” the neighbor recalled.
Public records show Mock worked as a morning anchor and reporter for FOX2 St. Louis between March 2011 and February 2015. More recently, her LinkedIn profile listed her as a data management consultant since December 2019. It remains unclear why she chose to step away from television broadcasting after her FOX2 tenure.
Her mother, Anita Avers, was a licensed clinical marriage and family therapist with over 20 years of experience, according to Wichita Counseling Professionals. Avers specialized in treating adults struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, and relationship challenges, including marital conflict, infidelity, and divorce.
Authorities have not yet released details about what led to the confrontation or confirmed whether any previous domestic disputes had been reported. Information regarding Mock’s initial court appearance has not been made available as of this report.
