A tragic ending has unfolded in the case of Joanna Brown, a 30-year-old Worcester, Massachusetts woman who was found dead inside her SUV, just days after she mysteriously left her job at a local bakery, telling her supervisor she needed to “take care of something.”
According to the Worcester Police Department, Brown’s body was discovered around 4 p.m. on Monday, November 3, inside her Mitsubishi Outlander, which was parked near Green Hill Towers Apartments.
Joanna had last been seen Friday morning, when she left her job at the Bean Counter Bakery Café at around 9 a.m., after asking to leave early for undisclosed personal reasons. She never returned to work — or home — sparking a citywide search and an outpouring of concern from family, coworkers, and the community.

In an interview with WGGB, Officer Elise Miranda detailed Joanna’s final moments at work:
“She left her shift and told her supervisor that she needed to leave for some personal reason — that she had something she needed to take care of,” Miranda said. “Her manager asked if she needed Saturday off as well, and Joanna said no. She said she’d be back, but she never returned.”
When Brown failed to report for her next shift, coworkers and family immediately knew something was wrong. Her boss at the bakery, Alice Lombardi, said employees were heartbroken as word spread that Brown was missing.
“She has been greeting our customers with her smile for eight years,” the bakery shared in a public post. “She has never just not shown up for her shift — until Saturday.”
The bakery owner told CBS News that customers were deeply affected by Joanna’s disappearance and later, her death.
“We miss her terribly,” Lombardi said. “She was the backbone of the business. We wanted her found. We wanted her back.”
Authorities have not released details on how or when Joanna Brown died. The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the case alongside local police. Her cause and manner of death remain pending, and officials have not yet confirmed whether foul play is suspected.
