Jacob Nitkiewicz, Newlywed Dad, Fatally Shot While Fishing at Mississippi Water Park in Incident Described as ‘Tragic Accident’

Jacob Nitkiewicz, a newlywed father and devoted family man, was fatally shot while fishing at a Mississippi water park in what authorities have described as an apparent “tragic accident.”

Nitkiewicz, 31, died from a gunshot wound to the head after the incident occurred early Saturday morning at Flint Creek Water Park in Stone County, Mississippi. The recreational park, located roughly 120 miles south of Jackson, features a 650-acre lake popular for fishing, boating, and swimming.

According to the Sun Herald, officers responded to the scene at approximately 1 a.m., where Nitkiewicz was found dead from the gunshot wound.

Stone County Coroner Wayne Flurry told the outlet he believes the shooting appears to have been a “tragic accident,” although an official autopsy remains pending.

Authorities have released few details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting. Police described the case as an “isolated incident” and stated there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Wiggins Police Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are continuing to investigate Nitkiewicz’s death.

The tragedy comes just months after Nitkiewicz married his longtime girlfriend, Mackenzi, following a 13-year relationship. According to his online obituary, the couple had been married for only four months before his sudden death.

The newlyweds had recently returned from their honeymoon in Colorado Springs, where they celebrated the beginning of their new life together.

Nitkiewicz leaves behind his wife, Mackenzi, and the couple’s young daughter, Emersyn Grace.

Following his death, loved ones launched a GoFundMe campaign to help support the grieving family during the difficult months ahead.

“Jacob was an incredible husband and a proud, loving father. He was the heart of their home, and his love for his family was constant and unwavering,” the fundraiser organizer wrote. “Now, Mackenzi and their sweet daughter, Emersyn Grace, are facing the difficult road ahead without him.”

Friends and relatives remembered Nitkiewicz as a hardworking provider who deeply valued family life and celebrated every milestone in his daughter’s life.

According to his obituary, he took immense pride in being a husband and father, always making time for family activities and supporting Emersyn at her dance recitals, piano performances, school achievements, and cheerleading competitions.

Nitkiewicz had recently earned a promotion to manager at Delta Tire World after working with the company for four years. His obituary described the promotion as a reflection of his leadership, dedication, and strong work ethic.

Outside of work and family life, Nitkiewicz was known for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking mountain trails, and traveling with those closest to him.

“Jacob was a present, steady husband and father who prioritized time together and created meaningful memories that will be cherished for years to come,” his obituary stated.

Authorities have not announced whether any charges are expected as the investigation into the fatal shooting remains ongoing.
