A complex investigation into a reported abduction has led to the arrest of Julie Goldberg, who is accused of acting as a "fake lawyer" to illegally detain a mother and two children. The case unfolded after law enforcement received reports that Mouna Omar Saleh Ali and her children had been taken under false pretenses from their residence in Greece, New York.
Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies were initially called to the scene at 3:19 p.m. on May 9. Early information suggested the abduction was a targeted act by a family associate with the intent to flee the region. Investigators immediately worked with the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit to issue an AMBER Alert and a county-wide BOLO. To prevent the suspects from leaving the area, alerts were sent to the New York State Thruway Authority, the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport, and the Canada Border Services Agency.
The victims were eventually located uninjured at a residence in the City of Rochester thanks to multi-jurisdictional intelligence efforts. Details later emerged via social media and family reports, specifically from the account "Dolo Rilla," alleging that Julie Goldberg and an accomplice orchestrated the abduction by posing as representatives of Child Protective Services (CPS). It is alleged that Mouna Ali, who does not speak English, was coerced into signing documents she did not understand and was told the relocation was a temporary CPS requirement.
According to family statements, the mother and children were held for days at a secluded location in Perinton, where their phones and tablets were confiscated to prevent contact with other family members. The family discovered there were no official court or CPS records regarding a case against Mouna Ali, revealing the operation was unauthorized. The situation came to light after a nine-year-old child managed to secretly communicate their location to an older brother, leading to the rescue.
The investigation into Julie Goldberg’s actions and the false accusations surrounding the Ali family remains active. Authorities are working to determine the full extent of the scheme and whether others assisted in the illegal detention of the family.
