Teen Girl Star Grant and 28-Year-Old Man Devan Oneal Loving Charged in Murders of Her Parents and Grandmother in Buncombe County, North Carolina

A 16-year-old girl and a 28-year-old man are behind bars after three members of the teenager's family were found shot to death inside their home in Fairview, North Carolina, in a case that has shaken the Buncombe County community.

Star Grant, 16, and Devan Oneal Loving, 28, are both facing three counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Grant is being charged as an adult, according to the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to the home on Ashworth Drive in Fairview on Thursday for what was described as a welfare check. Authorities later revealed it was the third welfare check at the residence since Monday, raising questions about what might have been overlooked in the days leading up to the tragic discovery.

When law enforcement arrived, they found three people dead from gunshot wounds inside the home. Police believe the victims had been dead for several days before their bodies were discovered.

The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office identified the victims as 41-year-old Travis Eugene Grant, 42-year-old Kimberly Michelle Grant, and 66-year-old Sharon Harwood Grant. Officials confirmed that Travis and Kimberly Grant were married and that Sharon Grant was Travis Grant's mother.

The investigation took a critical turn when detectives determined that Star Grant, the teenage daughter of Travis and Kimberly Grant who lived in the home, was missing.

The teen was located Friday morning in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, accompanied by Loving. Deputies believe the pair had been in the state for several days following the killings. Gatlinburg police said the two were taken into custody at a hotel on Ownby Street and questioned about the Buncombe County deaths.

Buncombe County deputies traveled to Gatlinburg to interview the suspects, and the information gathered during those interviews led to the murder charges being filed against both.

The case has left the Fairview community in disbelief. Three welfare checks were conducted at the home in just days, and the victims were found only after the third visit. Now, authorities are working to piece together the events that led a 16-year-old girl and a 28-year-old man to allegedly kill her own parents and grandmother before fleeing the state.
