A 20-year-old motorcyclist, Caleb Lopez, was tragically killed on Monday evening following a severe collision with an SUV near the intersection of 31st Street and Riverside Drive in Tulsa. The fatal crash took place at approximately 7:06 p.m. on June 22, 2026. Upon arriving at the scene, Tulsa Police officers and emergency medical personnel found Lopez suffering from catastrophic injuries. Despite wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations and surveillance footage indicate that Lopez was riding northbound on Riverside Drive alongside a group of motorcyclists. According to authorities, the group was observed traveling at a high rate of speed as they approached the intersection. At the same time, a female driver in a southbound Nissan Pathfinder was attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound 31st Street. As the SUV crossed into the intersection, Lopez's motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Pathfinder with significant force.
The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder was evaluated and treated at the scene for minor injuries. Tulsa Police confirmed that she did not suffer any severe trauma and was questioned by investigators before being released pending the outcome of the case.
The Tulsa Police Department's Advanced Traffic Investigation Unit has officially taken over the investigation to conduct a comprehensive review. Detectives are currently analyzing witness statements, reviewing nearby surveillance video, and evaluating the vehicle damage to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal crash. At this time, no charges have been announced, and the investigation remains active. Authorities are expected to release additional details once a final crash report is completed.
