SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Samuel Nutt, a 54-year-old man from Rolling Meadows, has been charged with unauthorized videotaping of a minor after allegedly recording a boy inside a restroom at Woodfield Mall in suburban Chicago, authorities said.
Police said the incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday, when officers were called to the mall following reports of a suspicious person recording a child in a bathroom.
Allegations Inside Woodfield Mall Restroom
According to the Schaumburg Police Department, Nutt allegedly used his personal cellphone to record video and audio of a boy while the child was urinating in a restroom stall at the mall. Authorities said the recording was made from a position immediately next to the victim.
The charge stems from a Class 3 felony offense of unauthorized videotaping of a minor.
Teen Witnesses Intervened and Alerted Security
Police said teenage witnesses inside the restroom confronted Nutt after noticing his behavior. The teens reportedly demanded his phone and kept him at the scene until mall security and responding Schaumburg officers arrived.
Nutt was arrested on site without incident.
Court Proceedings and Conditions of Release
Nutt appeared for a detention hearing at the Rolling Meadows Courthouse on Monday. He was later granted pretrial release with conditions that include electronic monitoring, a prohibition on contact with minors, and a ban from Woodfield Mall.
His next court date is scheduled for July 24. Authorities have not said whether additional charges are being considered.
