Alvin Jalasan Velasco, a nurse, ambulance driver, and responder with the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, passed away. The Philippine Nurses Association – Zamboanga del Sur Chapter mourns his passing with great sadness and the utmost respect.

Alvin, who was born in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, gave his life while conducting a rescue operation in the midst of dangerous floodwaters in San Jose, Nueva Ecija. This was his last act of bravery. His sacrifice was not only a remarkable act of bravery but also a potent illustration of the high ideals of humanity and service that characterize our line of work.

One legacy that crosses national boundaries is Alvin's unflinching dedication to serving and protecting others, even at the expense of his own life. Despite living and working far from home, he never lost sight of the people.

We offer his family in Aurora and Nueva Ecija our sincerest sympathies. I hope they take solace in the fact that Alvin was a hero whose name will live on among the greatest of all time, and that his death was not in vain.

I am grateful to Nurse Alvin Velasco. You were blessed with a life. It's your light service. It is a legacy of your sacrifice.
