Khumalo had last been seen alive a week prior when she visited Skhakhane’s residence. Her family became suspicious when she didn’t return, particularly after Skhakhane reached out to them, pretending to care and claiming she had taken a taxi home.

In search of the truth, the family enlisted the help of a traditional healer, who unveiled a terrifying reality: Khumalo’s remains were still located within Skhakhane’s home.

When family members and local residents confronted Skhakhane, he attempted to resist but was ultimately subdued. Inside the house, they encountered a ghastly scene—Khumalo’s dismembered body was found in the refrigerator, while her thigh was discovered cooking in a pot of curry. Disturbingly, reports indicate some of her body parts had already been eaten.

Overcome with fury, the community exacted brutal vengeance—beating Skhakhane before setting him and his house ablaze.

Authorities are now investigating both Khumalo’s murder and the subsequent vigilante killing. The case has reignited national conversations about gender-based violence, with many demanding justice for yet another woman lost to intimate partner brutality.
