KNH murder suspect Kennedy Kalombotole has been apprehended following the killings of two patients.

Kennedy Kalombotole, the primary suspect in the slayings of two patients at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), has been arrested, as confirmed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). His capture follows the violent murder of Edward Maingi Ndegwa on July 17, 2025.

New reports of murder at KNH have emerged.

As per the DCI, Ndegwa was admitted to Ward 7B (Group C, Male) on July 11 and was discovered dead on the afternoon of Thursday.

"Kalombotole’s arrest comes in the wake of the vicious murder of Edward Maingi Ndegwa on July 17, 2025," officials from the DCI stated in an update on their official website.

Disturbing details have surfaced from the crime scene.

A cleaner noticed blood seeping from Ndegwa’s neck while performing routine checks. Investigators found blood trails originating from the victim’s bedside extending to a nearby restroom and then leading to Kalombotole’s side room, where they uncovered blood-stained slippers and bedding.

A knife, believed to be the weapon used in the murder, was found wrapped in gloves and sent for analysis to the National Forensic Laboratory.

Kalombotole is also the main suspect in the homicide of Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, which occurred in Ward 7C back in February. At that time, the case was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), which sought additional investigations to bolster the evidence for prosecution.

Here is the timeline of events:

Dec 1, 2024: Kalombotole admitted to KNH
Feb 2025: Gilbert Muthoni murdered in Ward 7C
Jul 11, 2025: Edward Ndegwa admitted to Ward 7B
Jul 17, 2025: Ndegwa found dead; Kalombotole arrested

What is the next step?

Kalombotole is currently in the custody of the DCI, undergoing processing as the prosecutors prepare for his court appearance. Meanwhile, investigators continue to perform forensic analysis and examine the available CCTV footage.
