A mother in Newclare was arrested after her small child lit a bottle neck pipe.

Pastor Curt Van Heerden reportedly had the mother of the 4-year-old youngster and two other men jailed for forcing their infant son to smoke Mandrax.

Officers from the JMPD apprehend suspects in a viral video of child abuse.

On July 29, 2025, a disturbing video went viral. The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) is happy to report that three suspects were apprehended quickly. A little boy was shown in the video lighting drugs in a bottle neck for his mother, who then urged him to smoke in front of other adults.

While on normal patrol on Tuesday, July 29, JMPD K9 Unit Officers received a critical tip that helped them identify the suspects and their location. Officers arrived at the specified address in Newclare right away.

Officers arrived and found the mother, who fit the video's description. When asked, she named the guy who took the video as well as two other people who were in it. After identifying the suspects, officers went up to them, introduced themselves, and asked them about the video. Each of the three accused acknowledged using "madrex" and recording the event.

Charges of child abuse and neglect led to the offenders' immediate arrest. As proof, their cell phones were seized.

All three suspects were detained at Sophiatown South African Police Service (SAPS).

Crucially, the child involved in the video has been safely removed from the environment and placed into the secure care of the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit.

“The JMPD commends the vigilance of the community member who provided the tip-off, enabling a rapid response and ensuring the child’s safety. This successful operation underscores the JMPD’s unwavering commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our society and holding accountable those who endanger them,” said JMPD Chief of Police Commissioner Patrick Jaca.
