Remyl Matignas, a Filipino tourist, died after being hit by a taxi driver in a Hong Kong accident

Remyl Matignas (Rem), a Filipino tourist, was sadly died in Hong Kong after being struck by a taxi.

On Wednesday, the Department of Foreign Affairs revealed that a 35-year-old Filipino tourist died tragically in an accident on August 5.

The event occurred when he was hit by a taxi outside a hotel in Tsuen Wan West, Hong Kong.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) stated that the report came from the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong.

They further informed that the police have apprehended the 80-year-old taxi driver.

News reports in Hong Kong indicate that the victim had just checked out of the hotel. As he was carrying his luggage and looking at his mobile phone, a taxi abruptly collided with the hotel’s facade, hitting him.

The impact hurled the victim to the ground, leaving him trapped between the taxi and the marble columns outside the hotel.

He was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was later declared dead.

On the other hand, the taxi driver sustained minor injuries.

The cab driver was reportedly waiting outside the hotel when he felt dizzy and attempted to drive away.

Unfortunately, he lost control of the cab, leading to the fatal crash.
