Donald Trump says Charlie Kirk suspect Tyler Robinson, 22 year old man arrested after minister and father turn him in while appearing on FOX News

Somebody close to him turned him in.' Donald Trump told FOX News on Friday morning that a sought Charlie Kirk suspect had been apprehended in southern Utah. In a Facebook post, the President identified the alleged assassin as Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah resident. 

The suspect according to President Trump was turned over to officials by ‘somebody close to him,’ describing the suspect’s own father, Matt Robinson, and minister as the individuals responsible for his arrest.

‘It was a minister who was involved with law enforcement… his good friend is a top U.S. Marshal – and they took it from there,’ Trump said, suggesting that the suspect’s father told him it was time to turn themselves in. 

‘I hope he’s going to be found guilty, and I hope he gets the death penalty. What he did — Charlie Kirk was the finest person and he didn’t deserve this.’

While Trump said he didn’t want to get ahead of his Justice Department and FBI, he shared a few details that he knows about how they tracked down the suspected shooter.

The apparent arrest comes after officials said hours earlier they had ‘no idea’ where the shooter was and shared new surveillance footage capturing the suspect moments after the attack in which he is seen jumping off the roof and soon after blending in with the crowd before fleeing the scene.

Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old Utah man, led the trail of evidence behind.

The video shows the shooter dashing across the roof of Utah Valley University's Lossee Center and jumping to the ground before departing the area shortly later.

Officials stated the shooter left a palm print and a shoe print from a pair of Converse sneakers, which were later identified as Robinson's.

The alleged assassin's arrest comes after conservative firebrand Charile Kirk, 31, was shot during a Turning Point USA rally at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on Wednesday, September 10.

Authorities believe the suspect fired from the roof of a building 200 yards away from the event. Video captured the sniper assailant running along the roof as they made their escape.

The FBI said it found a high-powered, bolt-action rifle believed to have been used in the shooting in the area.

A forearm imprint, a footwear print and palm imprint were also located on top of the roof of the building. Authorities said they were using “technologies” to review that evidence.

Authorities to date have yet to release a motive for the slaying.

Investigators have scheduled a public update for later this morning.
