An Illinois man was charged last week with the July shooting of his ex-girlfriend, which he is thought to have done to convey a message to his current girlfriend.
Two months after the July 19 shooting in Peoria, Illinois, Jaquon L. Timothy, 23, was charged with aggravated battery with a handgun, according to a statement from the Peoria County State's Attorney.
Officers responding to a complaint of a shooting at 1:30 a.m. on July 19 discovered the victim with gunshot wounds to her feet, according to the state attorney's office.
During their investigation, investigators discovered that Timothy's current girlfriend claimed he told her what he was going to do before the shooting.
Police claim Timothy allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend "as a way to prove his love to his new girlfriend," prosecutors said.
Timothy's girlfriend told police that after the shooting, he allegedly told her he had "carried it out."
