BIRMINGHAM, AL — Rising Birmingham rapper Xavier Brandon Clark, better known by his stage name PaperChaser Zay, was shot and killed late Thursday night while sitting inside his car in a driveway near the city’s Legion Field district.
According to Birmingham Police, officers responded just after 11:30 p.m. to the 1100 block of Graymont Avenue West following a ShotSpotter alert of multiple gunshots in the area.
Upon arrival, officers found Clark, 28, unresponsive inside a parked vehicle. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported hearing a barrage of gunfire before discovering the young father motionless in his car. Police confirmed that the number of shots fired was in the double digits, though an exact count was not disclosed.

Following the tragic news, family members, friends, and fans gathered near the scene to mourn the loss of the artist whose promising career was cut short.
Authorities have not yet released information on any suspects or a potential motive, though investigators believe the rapper may have been intentionally targeted.
Clark’s death marks Birmingham’s 64th homicide of the year, according to AL.com.
