Ozark, Missouri Man Accused of Killing Mother With Gardening Tool Over Inheritance Dispute
Authorities in Ozark, Missouri say 39-year-old Derrick Alling brutally killed his mother, Carolyn ‘Alesia’ Alling, with a gardening tool because he was allegedly impatient for his inheritance.
Police discovered the 60-year-old victim’s body at her home Thursday night after her husband, Roger “Rocky” Sweet, reported that she hadn’t answered calls for hours.
Inheritance Dispute and Suspect’s Behavior
According to investigators, Roger told officers that Derrick had been threatening his mother for weeks, demanding access to his inheritance. Detectives later confirmed that Derrick was listed as a beneficiary of his mother’s trust.
When officers arrived, they encountered Derrick at the residence. Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole said his demeanor raised immediate suspicion.
“They just had a gut feeling something wasn’t quite right, and they acted upon that,” Cole explained. “Unfortunately, that gut feeling turned out to be true.”
Discovery of Carolyn ‘Alesia’ Alling’s Body
Derrick allegedly told police that his mother was in the guest house but refused to say whether she was okay. When asked if she was alive, he reportedly replied, “I don’t think so.”
Investigators soon discovered Carolyn’s body inside. Court documents state she had been beaten in the head and face multiple times with a gardening or scraping tool, suffering several skull fractures.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Derrick was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He pleaded not guilty and is currently being held without bond. His next court date is set for October 14, according to local outlet KY3.
