Jackelyn Leeann Garcia Granted $1 Million Bond in Connection with Death of 12-Year-Old Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres

Jackelyn Leeann Garcia, the aunt of 12-year-old Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres, has been granted a $1 million bond after being charged in connection with the young girl’s death.

Authorities arrested Jackelyn Garcia, along with the victim’s mother, Karla Garcia, and Karla’s boyfriend, Jonatan Nanita, after Mimi’s remains were found in a container behind an abandoned home on Clark Street on October 8.

Karla Garcia faces murder charges, while Jackelyn Garcia has been charged with cruelty to persons. Nanita is charged with murder and tampering with evidence.

Police say the child’s body was in an advanced state of decomposition, and investigators believe she died in the fall of 2024 while living with her mother in Farmington, Connecticut. Authorities allege that Mimi endured prolonged abuse and malnourishment before her death.

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause and manner of death.

The victim’s father, Victor Torres, and stepmother, Frances Melendez, told reporters they learned of Mimi’s death from police. Torres said he had not seen or spoken to his daughter since before her 12th birthday on January 29, and that she had been living with her mother, who had full custody.

Karla Garcia remains held on a $5 million bond, while Jackelyn Garcia’s bond has been set at $1 million. Jonatan Nanita remains in custody as police continue their investigation into the disturbing case.
