Dallas, Texas – Social media users are expressing outrage after Jim Whorley allegedly celebrated the tragic death of Angel Rojas, a young father who was fatally crushed while working at a Dallas funeral home.
According to reports, Whorley posted an insensitive message on Facebook following the incident, writing: “The bright side is ICE won’t have to deport.” The remark has since drawn widespread condemnation online for its callous tone toward a grieving family.
The victim, Angel Rojas, 24, died after being pinned beneath a massive concrete burial vault at Restland Funeral Home, Cemetery and Crematory on October 20. Rojas was reportedly moving the heavy vault when it fell, trapping him from the waist down.
Unable to free himself, Rojas managed to make a heartbreaking final call to his wife, Natalie Rojas, leaving a voicemail that would become his last words.
“He told me he wanted to go home,” Natalie said tearfully. “He told me he loved me and he wanted to go home.”
Emergency crews spent more than 45 minutes trying to rescue Rojas using hydraulic spreaders and airbags — tools typically used in vehicle extractions. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but sadly passed away later that day.
Rojas had taken the job to support his wife and their 3-year-old son, Angel Noel, who will turn four next month.
The Rojas family has accused Restland Funeral Home of gross negligence, claiming that Angel should never have been working alone or handling heavy machinery without proper assistance.
“There’s no way on earth this man should have been operating that machinery alone,” said the family’s attorney, Matthew Graham. “He shouldn’t have been working alone. He shouldn’t have been moving things of that weight alone.”
As of now, the funeral home has not released an official statement, and the Dallas Police Department has confirmed that the investigation into the fatal workplace accident remains ongoing.
Meanwhile, online users have condemned Jim Whorley’s remarks as disrespectful and inhumane, urging compassion and accountability in the wake of the tragedy
