A tragic incident unfolded at Lincoln University of Pennsylvania on Saturday night during the school’s Yardfest Homecoming celebration, as a mass shooting left four people injured on the Chester County campus.

According to the Chester County District Attorney’s Office, gunfire erupted around 9:15 p.m. near the university’s football field, sending attendees fleeing in panic during the annual Homecoming Week event.

Authorities confirmed that four victims sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to Christiana Hospital in various conditions, according to ABC News.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Chester County Commissioner Eric Roe acknowledged the shooting and offered prayers for those affected, describing it as a heartbreaking night for the university community.

Law enforcement officers from Pennsylvania and Delaware quickly responded to the scene. Officials have stated that there is no active shooter threat at this time. However, no arrests have been made, and a motive remains unknown.

The roadway leading to campus, Baltimore Pike, was temporarily closed as investigators processed the scene and collected evidence.

This weekend marked Homecoming at Lincoln University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) located about 50 miles from Philadelphia and 25 miles west of Wilmington, Delaware.

Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
