A Missouri woman has been arrested after allegedly giving a former lover a red-and-white cooler containing a human fetus, telling him it belonged to him.
Makayla Annette Haed, 29, of Pulaski County, was charged with first-degree harassment after the shocking incident, which authorities say caused the victim “severe emotional distress.”
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), deputies were dispatched to a residence in Waynesville around 2:48 a.m. on September 18, after a man reported discovering what he believed to be a fetus inside a cooler left at his home.
The man told deputies that Haed — a longtime acquaintance and occasional romantic partner — had dropped off the cooler earlier that night, sealing it with green tape and reportedly telling him, “Here’s your kid,” before leaving in her car.
The victim, who said Haed had recently claimed she was pregnant, initially believed it was a “cruel joke” and assumed the cooler contained drinks. After opening it later and discovering fetal remains, he immediately contacted law enforcement.
PCSO deputies arrived and took possession of the cooler and its contents for forensic examination. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether DNA testing has been performed to establish paternity.

The victim described Haed as a “habitual liar” and said he doubted her pregnancy claims. Court documents state that prior to the delivery, on September 17, Haed had messaged the victim claiming to have suffered a miscarriage but provided no details.
Haed was later located and arrested. She is charged with first-degree harassment and remains held on a $50,000 bond pending a counsel status hearing scheduled for October 14.
This is not Haed’s first run-in with law enforcement. Earlier in January 2024, she was charged in a separate case after allegedly stabbing a previous boyfriend, leaving him with a punctured lung.
In that incident, Haed claimed the boyfriend “accidentally backed into the knife” during a struggle. The man disputed her account, saying he was attempting to leave when he felt a sudden stabbing pain in his back. Police later charged Haed with felony second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor domestic assault.
Authorities have not stated whether Haed remains under probation or bond conditions from her earlier case.
