A tragedy has struck the Disney community following confirmation that 31-year-old Summer Equitz, a Disney super fan from Naperville, Illinois, has been identified as the guest who died by suicide at Disney’s Contemporary Resort Hotel in Orlando, Florida.
According to the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, Equitz died from multiple blunt impact injuries, with her cause of death officially ruled a suicide. No further details regarding the circumstances of her death have been made public.
Equitz’s body was discovered on Tuesday, October 14, around 6:40 p.m., near the Magic Kingdom park. Early social media reports had speculated that she may have been struck by a monorail, but the Orange County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed to People Magazine that her death was not related to the monorail system.
The Contemporary Resort Hotel — known for its signature A-frame structure with the Disney monorail track running directly through the building — temporarily suspended monorail operations following the incident.
One park visitor, Eve Biaggi, shared her experience on Facebook, writing:
“I was inside the monorail when it stopped abruptly near the Contemporary building. It was very unusual. We stayed there for about 20 minutes before returning to the Ticket Center, and the service was shut down for the rest of the night.”
Equitz’s death comes just months after she announced her pregnancy on Facebook in December 2024 while traveling abroad with her fiancé in Cairo, Egypt, as shown in photos she shared online. It remains unclear whether she carried the pregnancy to term.
Before the discovery, Equitz had been reported missing by her family in Illinois, prompting a Reddit thread in a Disney fan community urging anyone who spotted her to contact authorities. The thread, which has since been removed, mentioned that she was honeymooning at Disney World at the time of her disappearance. While the exact circumstances leading to her death remain unclear, those close to Equitz describe her as a lifelong Disney enthusiast whose love for the parks and their magic was well-known among friends and family.
The incident has left both the Disney fan community and the Naperville area in mourning as questions remain about what led to this heartbreaking loss.
