Arlington, Texas police are investigating the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Breasia Johnson, who was killed Wednesday night while driving with a man and two young children near a QuickTrip off Interstate 20. The shooting occurred around 7:40 p.m. near Little Road after gunfire struck the victims’ vehicle as it traveled westbound on the interstate. When officers arrived, they found a wounded man inside the car and Johnson unresponsive from gunshot injuries. She was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. The man she was with was treated for his wounds, while the two children in the car were physically unharmed and transported to Medical City Arlington for precautionary evaluation.
Police say another vehicle traveling nearby was also hit by bullets but no one inside that car was injured. After being shot, the surviving man managed to drive to a nearby gas station to call for help. Investigators have not yet determined whether the deadly gunfire was the result of a targeted attack, a road-rage incident, or a random shooting. Social media posts from devastated relatives suggested that Johnson had been pregnant at the time, deepening the heartbreak surrounding her death.
In a painful tribute posted on Facebook, Breasia’s grandmother, Rena Johnson, expressed her grief and shock, writing that her granddaughter had just moved into her dream home and was preparing for Thanksgiving. She described Johnson as her “heart” and “best friend,” mourning the reality that “three under 10 children” are now left without their mother. “How do you look in their eyes and tell them their mom won’t be picking them up anymore?” she wrote, adding that Johnson had also been expecting a baby boy. She pleaded for an end to gun violence and vowed justice would come for whoever pulled the trigger.
Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing. As of now, no arrests have been made.
