Detroit Teen Suniya Jenkins Stabbed at Kids Foot Locker After Woman’s Card Is Declined in Mall Attack

A Detroit teenager was stabbed multiple times at a Kids Foot Locker after a woman allegedly lost her temper when her payment card was declined at the register — an outburst that quickly turned violent.

Suniya Jenkins, 19, says she had nothing to do with the argument that sparked the attack but ended up becoming the victim of a random stabbing inside the Kids Foot Locker store at Southland Center Mall in Taylor, Michigan, on Wednesday, November 5. The incident began when a woman shopping with her children reportedly became enraged after someone in line called her a “broke b—” following her card being declined. Jenkins told local reporters that she never said anything to the woman and simply walked into the store to see what the commotion was about before being attacked.

“I think it was unfair to me to get stabbed,” Jenkins said. She explained that the woman allegedly pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the neck, stomach, and thigh, leaving her with serious injuries. “To start, I was stabbed four times and I have a punctured lung right now,” she added.

According to Jenkins, the woman was shouting and arguing with several people near the checkout counter before turning her anger toward the teenager. “As the argument got verbal, she put her hand in her purse and proceeded to tell me she was going to shoot me,” Jenkins recalled. “I did not see or even know I was stabbed until after the physical altercation.” Witnesses said the suspect had children with her at the time of the attack, which only added to the chaos inside the store.

Police quickly arrived at the scene and arrested the female suspect, who is now expected to face assault and weapons charges. Authorities have not yet released her name publicly. Jenkins, who is recovering from her injuries, said she plans to press charges but feels conflicted about the situation. “I am going to press charges, but it does sadden me because I don’t want her to be taken away from her children. I truly don’t,” she said.

Despite the severity of her wounds, doctors expect Jenkins to make a full recovery. The shocking attack has left shoppers and community members disturbed, raising concerns about rising tensions and violence in public spaces. For Suniya Jenkins and her family, what should have been an ordinary day at the mall turned into a terrifying ordeal that nearly cost her life — all over a senseless argument that she insists she had nothing to do with.
