A Florida man has been charged with second-degree murder after police say he pushed a woman from an elevated Miami Metrorail platform, causing her death. Jorge Gomez, 45, who authorities say has no fixed address, was arrested Thursday and charged in the killing of 32-year-old Kanisa Love, according to an arrest report.
The incident came to light on November 15, when Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputies and fire rescue crews responded to Southwest 80th Street and U.S. 1 in South Miami after receiving a call about an unconscious woman. First responders found Love’s body beneath the Dadeland South Metrorail station. An autopsy performed by the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner determined she died from blunt force trauma, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Love’s body was not discovered until the following morning. Authorities have not said whether the victim knew Gomez or what may have led to the confrontation. Family members told reporters that Love had recently celebrated her 32nd birthday on November 7 and was originally from Georgia, with no relatives living in Florida. They are now demanding answers about what led to the attack and why she was targeted.
Gomez is currently facing a second-degree murder charge. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
