Mother Sharol Nomsa Mongale Says Amahle Thabethe Is Not Missing After She Was Seen With a Pakistani Man [VIDEO]

Sharol Nomsa Mongale has stated that Amahle Thabethe is not missing, following claims circulating online that the girl had been seen with a Pakistani man in South Africa. This claim contrasts sharply with the long-standing account from Amahle’s biological mother, Nokulunga Nkosi, who has spent six years searching for her daughter.

Nkosi, 40, continues to hold onto hope that Amahle is alive. “There just has to be someone, somewhere who saw her—someone who knows what happened to her after a man took her with him to give him directions,” she said. Amahle was only six years old when she disappeared in Tsakane, Brakpan, on April 6, 2019. Police later offered a R50,000 reward, but no information ever surfaced.

Speaking during Child Protection Week as part of an anti–child trafficking awareness campaign, Nkosi described the daily pain of living without answers. “I can’t begin to tell you how I feel every day when I wake up. Every time I see a learner in Grade 9—the same age she would be now—not a day goes by that I don’t think about her,” she said.

Nkosi said Amahle vanished after being lured by a stranger who asked her to walk with him to give directions in exchange for sweets. She said she longs for closure, even if the truth is painful. “I would find closure if I knew she was dead. Until then, I plead for her to come home.”

She also reflected on her regrets as a mother: “So many people approach me with empty promises. I should never have allowed her to play at the neighbour’s house back then. My advice to parents is never let your child out of your sight. We are living in a very cruel world.”

Six years after Amahle’s disappearance, the case remains unsolved, and authorities have not confirmed any new sightings. Nkosi continues to urge anyone with information to come forward.
