NFL Player Kris Boyd in Critical Condition After NYC Shooting Following Dispute Outside Restaurant

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is in critical condition after being shot early Sunday morning in New York City. The shooting occurred after a verbal dispute outside a Midtown restaurant escalated into gun violence.

According to the NYPD, officers responded to reports of shots fired around 2 a.m. on West 38th Street. When they arrived, they found a 29-year-old man — now confirmed as Boyd — suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition, according to the New York Post.

The Jets released a brief statement saying, “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

Investigators say the incident began as a dispute outside Sei Less, a trendy Asian-fusion restaurant frequented by celebrities including Cardi B, 50 Cent, Kevin Hart, and Mark Wahlberg. During the altercation, the suspect reportedly fired multiple rounds before fleeing the scene in a BMW X8. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Boyd, originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft, spent four seasons with the Vikings before joining the Arizona Cardinals in 2023. He later played for the Houston Texans and signed with the New York Jets in March. He has not appeared in any regular-season games this year and is currently listed on injured reserve.

A Texas native, Boyd has reportedly earned more than $8 million during his NFL career and had signed a $1.6 million contract with the Jets for this season.

Police are continuing to search for the gunman as the football community waits for updates on Boyd’s condition.
