Nicole Staples, a Mobile, Alabama teacher, has been arrested after a disturbing viral video captured her beating her son more than 20 times while yanking him by the hair—an incident that has shocked social media and led to her immediate firing.
Staples, who taught at Cottage Hill Christian Academy and had recently been recognized as Teacher of the Year, was recorded by her other child during the violent encounter. The video, which quickly spread across social media, shows the teacher repeatedly striking her son with alarming force, pulling his hair, and yelling at him while the child cries in distress.
According to authorities, Staples was arrested on charges of willful abuse of a child under 18 shortly after the footage circulated online. Cottage Hill Christian Academy confirmed she has since been terminated from her position.
The situation ignited intense discussion online, with many viewers expressing outrage over the severity of the punishment and the possibility that her other child—who filmed the video—may have experienced similar abuse. One widely shared social media post summarized the moment:
“Lmaooo y’all why she whoop 1 of her sons cause he bad af… her other son secretly recorded her & sent it to her job…..”
The video adds to the growing number of viral clips showing harsh discipline or abusive behavior being exposed through social media, but this incident stands out for its brutality and for the fact that the abuser was a respected educator entrusted with the care of children.
Authorities have not yet released further details about ongoing investigations or the children’s current condition, but the case continues to draw significant public attention and concern.
