Mississippi Student Patrick McClintock Arrested After Hurling Antisemitic Comment at Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy During Pizza Review

A Mississippi State University student has been arrested after allegedly shouting an antisemitic slur at Dave Portnoy, the outspoken founder of Barstool Sports, while he was filming one of his trademark “One Bite” pizza review videos in Starkville, Mississippi.

Authorities identified the student as Patrick McClintock, 20, a junior mechanical engineering major at Mississippi State. He was arrested on Monday and charged with disturbing the peace after a video circulated online showing him heckling Portnoy outside Boardtown Pizza & Pints during a busy game weekend.

In the clip, McClintock can reportedly be heard yelling “F— the Jews!” and throwing coins toward Portnoy as he recorded his pizza review. The incident immediately drew backlash online, with viewers condemning the antisemitic outburst.

Police said they were alerted to the video shortly after it spread across social media and quickly identified McClintock as the suspect. He was taken into custody, processed, and released on a $2,500 bond. According to the Starkville Police Department, a warrant for his arrest had been issued over the weekend following the initial investigation.

In a statement, Starkville police said that while offensive speech may be protected under the First Amendment, actions that threaten public safety or disrupt a peaceful event are not tolerated. “Every person has the right to feel safe and respected in our community,” the department said. “Offensive words alone are protected, but when behavior disrupts a public event or risks violence, the Starkville Police Department will take steps to help maintain safety and security.”

The Reflector, Mississippi State University’s student newspaper, confirmed McClintock’s identity and reported that the university had been made aware of the incident soon after the video surfaced.

Portnoy, who is Jewish and has long been a prominent — and sometimes controversial — figure in online media, addressed the incident in an interview. He said antisemitism is something he encounters “every day” and that this episode highlights a troubling shift in the broader social climate.

By Monday, McClintock had voluntarily withdrawn from Mississippi State University, according to reports. The school has not released an official statement but reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students.

The incident has since sparked widespread discussion online, with many condemning the student’s actions while others debated the boundaries of free speech, public behavior, and accountability in the digital age.
