Xavier Martinez has been identified as the barber seen in a viral video pepper spraying a homeless man, known only as Jonathan, outside a Chevron gas station. The shocking footage has sparked outrage across social media and prompted a wave of sympathy and support for the victim.
According to reports, the incident took place late Monday night at the Chevron located near State Highway 249 and Bammel North Houston Road. The video, first shared by KPRC 2 News community partner Grizzy’s Hood News, quickly spread online, drawing widespread condemnation.
In the disturbing clip, a man — now identified as Xavier Martinez — is seen walking toward a dumpster where Jonathan was sitting. Without warning, Martinez sprays pepper spray directly into Jonathan’s face, causing him to cry out in pain. The man then runs back to a nearby car while the person recording and another individual can be heard laughing in the background as Jonathan struggles with the burning effects of the spray.
Viewers across Houston and beyond have expressed outrage at the apparent cruelty of the act, describing it as both “heartless” and “inhumane.” Many community members have since reached out to offer Jonathan assistance, including food, clothing, and shelter.
Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding possible charges or whether an investigation has been launched, but social media users are calling for accountability and justice for Jonathan.
