Eight Suspects Charged in Death of Central Falls Woman Erica Bader

Eight people are now facing charges in connection with the death of 24-year-old Erica Bader, whose body was discovered in the woods in Pawtucket in October.

The eight defendants appeared before a judge in Providence District Court on Tuesday.

Police charged Andrew Cornell, 28; Joshua Brunelle, 35; Elizabeth Durand, 41; Stephanie Bletzer, 37; and Brittney Terpening, 34 with murder, kidnapping, and conspiracy. All five are being held without bail and are scheduled to return to court on Dec. 2.

Three others — Christopher Kordalewski, 22; Joanne Miller, 26; and Cheryl Blakely, 36 — were charged with kidnapping, conspiracy, and failure to report a death.

Bader had been living in a Central Falls home with several of the individuals now charged. Her stepmother, Crystal Smith, said Bader suffered physical abuse while living there. Smith stated that Bader once attempted to escape but was dragged back inside and held against her will.

Police have released few details about the ongoing investigation, and specifics were waived during Tuesday’s court proceedings. Central Falls Police Col. Anthony Roberson said the arrests reflect a coordinated and urgent investigative effort with Pawtucket authorities.

Pawtucket police said they located Bader’s body in the woods and believe she died elsewhere before being moved to the location. Earlier this year, officers attempted a well-being check at the residence but were unable to find her.

Earlier this month, 46 cats and four dogs were removed from the same home after the Rhode Island SPCA reported the animals were living in deplorable conditions.

Bader’s family said they have not yet received the autopsy report, but they believe she was pregnant at the time of her death. Her aunt, Stephanie Bender, and stepmother said they want justice for both Bader and her unborn child.
