Wichita, KS – Nicole Morgan Baird Hernandez, also known as Nikki Baird, a former Wichita North High School art teacher and past “Teacher of the Month” honoree, has been ordered to stand trial on charges that she groomed and engaged in unlawful sexual relations with a 17-year-old student.
A Sedgwick County judge ruled Tuesday that there is enough evidence for the 30-year-old educator to face trial, following a preliminary hearing detailing allegations that she isolated and groomed the male student before the alleged sexual relationship.
According to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, Hernandez was charged in June with four counts of unlawful sexual relations with a student over the age of 16. Court records state the relationship is believed to have begun when the student was a sophomore at Wichita North High School.
Police arrested Hernandez on May 22 in the 300 block of West Tyler in Wichita. She posted bond and was released the following day.

Tuesday’s court ruling means Hernandez will move forward to arraignment, scheduled for December 19.
The allegations mark a striking fall for the once-celebrated educator, who had previously been recognized in the district for her teaching achievements.
Hernandez has not publicly commented on the charges, and her defense has not yet presented arguments in court.
This remains an active criminal case, and further details are expected to emerge as it progresses toward trial.
