A 61-year-old Port Jefferson Station woman, Pamela Hanlon, died Thursday after losing control of her SUV on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) in Ronkonkoma, Suffolk County police said.
Authorities reported that Hanlon was driving a 2017 Toyota Highlander eastbound between exits 58 and 59 just before noon when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Road Closures and Investigation
The eastbound lanes of the LIE were temporarily shut down for approximately one hour while Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives investigated the scene. Traffic reopened around 1 p.m., and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and detectives are examining whether a medical issue may have contributed to the accident.
Remembering Pamela Hanlon
Hanlon was a real estate agent with Signature Premier Properties and a devoted mother of two. Her husband, Ken Hanlon, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media.
“I can’t believe I am writing this…. Today my beautiful wife of 33 years was in a horrible car accident and passed away this morning,” he wrote. “You have left a huge void in my life that will always be there. Thank you from the bottom of my heart... Please watch over me and the kids.”
Other Incidents on the LIE
Suffolk police noted that Hanlon’s crash was one of two accidents reported on the LIE in the area that day. Earlier Thursday, a separate crash involved a stolen Corvette driven by an intoxicated motorist, who was treated and released into custody.
Authorities continue to investigate Hanlon’s crash, and details will be updated as more information becomes available.
