George Cole, Chickasha Stepfather, Attempts Suicide After Facing Child Abuse and Sex Charges

George Cole, the stepfather of 12-year-old Ryan “RJ” Davis, attempted to take his own life Monday shortly after learning he had been charged with multiple counts of child abuse and sexual abuse, authorities said. His wife, Kimberly Cole, also faces related charges.

According to the Caddo County District Attorney, George Cole tried to hang himself in his jail cell using a bedsheet. Jail staff intervened, and first responders performed about 30 minutes of CPR before reviving him. Cole is now receiving medical care at a hospital in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate the incident.

Charges and Court Proceedings

Cole faces a total of ten charges, including eight counts of child abuse, one count of child sexual abuse, and one count of child neglect. Additional charges include conspiracy and a pattern of criminal offenses.

He appeared before a special district judge on Monday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 16, and his bond was set at $2.5 million. Conditions of his release, if granted, include no contact with minors, no possession of weapons, wearing a GPS device, and no contact with animals or witnesses.

Kimberly Cole, RJ Davis’ mother, also faces multiple charges: three counts of child abuse, three counts of child neglect, two counts of child sexual abuse, two counts of crimes against nature, and one count of conspiracy, according to court records.

Boy Found Safe After Being Missing

The attempted suicide comes just two days after RJ Davis, who had been missing since January 2, was found safe at a shelter on January 11. Hunter McKee, public information manager with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, said, “We can say that the outcome that we were all hoping for has come true. RJ Davis was found safe. He’s doing well.”

Authorities have not disclosed how the boy ended up alone at the location in Caddo County, but officials confirmed that he had previously run away due to unsafe home conditions. Family members have promised not to return RJ to his parents, and state authorities are now seeking a foster home for the boy.

The investigation into the alleged abuse by George and Kimberly Cole is ongoing.
