Indian-Origin Dad Vijay Kumar Kills Four Family Members in Lawrenceville, Georgia Home as 12-Year-Old Hides and Calls 911

A Georgia man allegedly shot and killed four family members, including his wife, while their 12-year-old child hid in a closet and called 911, authorities said.

Vijay Kumar, 51, was arrested early Friday morning after police responded to reports of gunshots at a Lawrenceville home around 2:30 a.m., discovering four fatalities at the scene, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The victims were identified as Meemu Dogra, 43, Kumar’s wife, and her relatives, Gourav Cumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38.

Kumar was located near the home and taken into custody without incident.

Domestic Dispute Preceded the Shooting

Authorities said the shooting followed an argument between Kumar and Dogra earlier in the evening. The couple had traveled to the Lawrenceville residence with their 12-year-old child. Two other children, ages 7 and 10, were also present and hid in a closet during the shooting. All three children were found physically unharmed when police arrived.

Police said it is not yet clear what prompted the argument or why Kumar and Dogra went to the Lawrenceville home, but investigators believe the killings were domestic-related. It has also not been confirmed whether all four victims were related to the wife’s side of the family.

Charges and Investigation

Kumar has been booked on multiple charges, including:

  • Four counts of aggravated assault

  • Four counts of felony murder

  • Four counts of malice murder

  • One count of first-degree cruelty to children

  • Two counts of third-degree cruelty to children

The Gwinnett County Police Department continues to investigate the case.
