A former Baton Rouge middle school counselor was found dead last week after being accused of sending a series of inappropriate messages to a 14-year-old former student.
Quinton Dixon, 44, was discovered on January 28 with a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the cafeteria of an abandoned school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Coroners have ruled his death a suicide.
Dixon had been placed on administrative leave from Westdale Middle School on January 15, just weeks before his death. He had worked for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System since August 2022.
According to an arrest warrant obtained by The Advocate, Dixon allegedly sent the minor a series of messages on Instagram between November and January. The texts reportedly included questions about whether the girl had a boyfriend, comments on her appearance, hints at a potential romantic relationship, and offers to drive her home.
Authorities described the messages as “consistent with grooming behavior in pursuit of an intimate relationship with the minor victim.” The student reportedly came forward after Dixon allegedly attempted to speak with her while she was walking home from school.
The messages were shared with school officials, prompting Dixon’s leave. Some of the texts were later posted online, though it is unclear who made them public.
Before his death, Dixon faced four counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
“Today, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System was notified of the passing of an employee,” school officials told WBRZ-TV.
