Rebecca Good, Wife of Renee Nicole Good, Blames Herself After ICE Shooting Death as Minneapolis Incident Sparks National Debate

The wife of Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old mother of three fatally shot during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Minneapolis, has publicly blamed herself for the tragedy as officials, witnesses, and family members sharply dispute what led to the deadly encounter.

In emotional footage shared widely online, Rebecca Good is seen distraught at the scene of the shooting, crying and taking responsibility for encouraging her wife to confront ICE agents during a standoff with protesters.

“I made her come down here, it’s my fault,” Rebecca Good can be heard saying through tears. “They just shot my wife.”

Renee Nicole Good was killed Wednesday during an ICE operation in south Minneapolis as protesters challenged federal agents. Witnesses claim Good and her wife were acting as legal observers, filming officers when the confrontation escalated. Renee Good was reportedly shot three times in the face.

However, others online have accused the couple of being “professional agitators” or “radical leftists,” allegations that Good’s family strongly denies.

Renee’s mother, Donna Ganger, rejected claims that her daughter was involved in protest activity.

“That’s so stupid,” Ganger told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. “Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known. She was extremely compassionate. She took care of people her entire life. She was loving, forgiving, and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”

Ganger added that her daughter was likely terrified in her final moments.

Federal authorities allege that Renee Good attempted to run over ICE officers by “weaponizing” her vehicle while blocking official vehicles. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has labeled her actions an act of domestic terrorism.

But video circulating online appears to contradict that account. Footage shows Rebecca Good outside the burgundy SUV, filming ICE agents while walking around the vehicle, as Renee remained inside. The vehicle appears stationary or moving away when shots were fired, according to multiple reviews of the video.

Renee Nicole Good wife, Rebecca Good as the partner now blames self for shooting death at hands of Minneapolis ICE agent.
The footage has intensified public scrutiny and raised questions about why Rebecca Good was outside the vehicle filming, how the situation escalated so rapidly, and whether deadly force was justified.

Officials remain deeply divided.

While ICE has not officially named the agent involved, social media users incorrectly identified the officer as Steve Gross, a claim not confirmed by authorities.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem defended the shooting, stating that the ICE agent acted defensively.

“An officer of ours acted quickly and defensively, shot to protect himself and the people around him,” Noem said, reiterating that ICE operations in Minnesota will continue.

Vice President JD Vance echoed that stance, saying agents would “work even harder” following the incident.

“I want every ICE officer to know that their president, vice president, and the entire administration stands behind them,” Vance said.

Former President Donald Trump referred to Renee Good as a “professional agitator” and claimed the shooting was an act of self-defense.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin repeated the agency’s assertion that Good “weaponized her vehicle” and said the officer fired while fearing for his life and public safety.

“He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers,” McLaughlin said, calling the gunshots “defensive shots.”

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey forcefully rejected DHS’s narrative.

“This is bullst,” Frey said at a press conference. “ICE is trying to spin this as self-defense. To ICE: get the fk out of Minneapolis. We do not want you here.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also criticized the federal response, urging residents to remain calm while condemning DHS’s version of events as propaganda.

“Don’t believe this propaganda machine,” Walz wrote. “The state will ensure there is a full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice.”

Walz later confirmed the Minnesota National Guard is preparing for potential deployment to Minneapolis amid rising tensions.

The shooting is now under investigation by the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
