Renee Nicole Good Killed in Minneapolis Shooting; Known Anti-ICE Activist and “ICE Watch” Member

Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was shot and killed by a federal agent Wednesday during an incident involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, authorities said. Good, who was involved with a local anti-ICE activist group known as ICE Watch, had been participating in efforts to “document and resist” ICE operations in the area.

According to local sources, Good became involved with ICE Watch after moving to Minneapolis last year. Her connection to the group stemmed in part from her 6-year-old son’s attendance at Southside Family Charter School, a Minneapolis K-5 school that emphasizes social justice and community engagement.

“She was a warrior. She died doing what was right,” said a local parent, Leesa, at a vigil held in Good’s memory. Good and her wife, Rebecca, had been raising their son in a working-class, activist-heavy neighborhood of south Minneapolis.

ICE Watch is a grassroots coalition of activists who monitor and document ICE activity in sanctuary cities. Members use phone apps, whistles, and other methods to alert neighborhoods of federal operations. Some members have previously engaged in confrontational actions against ICE agents, though authorities emphasize the fatal shooting is still under investigation.

The fatal encounter occurred as Good drove her SUV toward ICE agents conducting an enforcement operation south of downtown Minneapolis. Federal officials described the shooting as an act of self-defense and confirmed the incident is under investigation.

Neighbors and fellow activists said Good had received training through ICE Watch on safely confronting agents, including understanding rights and responding to federal enforcement. She was reportedly well-known in the activist community, where she and her wife participated in group meetings and community events.

Following the shooting, a local vigil drew numerous residents from the area, with signs and memorials honoring Good and emphasizing social justice causes. Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the actions of Good, her wife, and federal agents.
