San Antonio Man Miguel Martinez Killed While Fixing Broken-Down Car on Highway 90

A San Antonio, Texas man and married father of three was struck and killed early Monday morning while attempting to fix his disabled vehicle along U.S. Highway 90, police confirmed.

Miguel Angel Martinez, 34, had pulled over after experiencing mechanical problems and was working on his car along the 3200 block of Highway 90 West near General McMullen Drive just before 6 a.m. when he was hit.

Police said Martinez was standing outside his vehicle with his emergency hazard lights activated and was positioned near the far-right lane of traffic when another vehicle traveling eastbound struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver involved stopped immediately and attempted to render aid, but emergency responders pronounced Martinez dead upon arrival. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled the death an accident caused by blunt force injuries, according to KENS5.

Authorities said Martinez was partially blocking the far-right lane at the time he was struck. Police noted that all parties involved have been cooperative, and no charges are expected in connection with the incident.

At the time of the crash, Martinez had just left his home to go to work — a trip he never completed.

According to social media posts, Martinez’s wife, Shugey, asked for prayers as she works to explain the sudden loss to their three children, ages 16, 7, and 5. She described Miguel as deeply loved by his family and well-known throughout the community.

A fundraiser titled “In Memory of Miguel Martinez” has since been launched to support his widow and their three children.
