Ali Jasim Dies After Jumping From I-74 Bridge Near Bettendorf, Authorities Say

Ali Jasim has died following an incident Monday evening on the I-74 Bridge connecting Illinois and Iowa, according to emergency radio traffic and law enforcement activity at the scene.

Authorities responded to reports of a person jumping from the bridge and landing on ice below the span near Bettendorf, Iowa. Traffic continued to flow across the bridge, but a heavy police and emergency presence was visible, with multiple agencies responding from Bettendorf, Arsenal, East Moline, and Moline.

Scanner traffic indicated that rescue efforts were complicated by icy river conditions, which initially prevented boats from reaching the individual. A MABAS Technical Rescue Team was requested, and the Bettendorf Fire Department deployed a thermal drone to search for movement.

Emergency crews eventually reached the individual using an inflatable rescue boat. The subject was recovered and turned over to medical personnel and the Bettendorf Police Department, but was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have not released additional details surrounding the circumstances of the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
