A tragic domestic incident in Washington, D.C.’s Glover Park neighborhood ended with the deaths of a mother and her estranged partner, and the safe recovery of their toddler son.
Police say 35-year-old Stephon Marquis Jeter fatally shot his estranged partner, Rayven Amuan Edwards, at their Glover Park residence on Wednesday around 4:30 p.m. During the incident, a 12-year-old girl was shot in the arm and transported to a hospital; she is expected to survive. An 8-year-old boy in the home was unharmed.
Following the shooting, Jeter fled the scene with his 3-year-old son, prompting an Amber Alert. Authorities later tracked Jeter’s vehicle into D.C., where it crashed near 30th and Nash Place. Jeter was found inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and pronounced dead. The 3-year-old boy was unharmed and later found safe with a relative in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
D.C. Police Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll described the incident as “one of the most tragic circumstances I’ve ever seen,” noting that the domestic dispute escalated from the apartment into the hallway, devastating the family.
